Benny’s Books Blog’s theme is all things media: books, magazines and movies. I especially highlight movies that are based on books. I think it’s interesting how two people can read the same book and have completely different opinions on the interpretation. Most of the time, it is very easy to tell if a movie is made because of a love for a particular book or if it is strictly for box office riches.
The name Benny’s Books comes from Maeve Binchy’s novel, Circle of Friends. The main character, Benny, finds herself in a world that tells her that to be popular and well-liked, she must have a husband and/or boyfriend; instead she decides that she’s good enough and she won’t compromise herself for anyone. It’s a wonderful coming of age story and an inspiration to many young women. I read this book in high school where all us teenage girls mostly talked about boys and Circle of Friends gave me an inkling of a world beyond a particular boy’s face.
As for me, I’m a full time working mother of four. I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a liberal arts degree in English. I love literature, poetry and art. I’m a part-time reader and writer; though most of my writing is either in blog form or in my journal. Time is limited, but I try to keep up with the things (and people) I love.
Happy Reading!
